ROUTE OF AN OLD WATER SUPPLY OF POLYKASTRO

The beautiful route from the old aqueduct of Polykastro to the location of Agios Panteleimon in Mikrodasos, along the bank of the river Axios, offers visitors the opportunity to tour the “wide” river of Homer.

On a route of 12 km the visitor enjoys the natural beauty of the landscape and walks accompanied by the sounds of nature. Significant populations of water birds live in the area, such as herons, swallows, gulls, while the species that find refuge in Axios are more than 200. Poplars, beeches and plane trees compose the idyllic image of the natural landscape and offer their shade to hikers. Wood and stone were used for the construction of the path and resting places were created for the visitors. The hiking trail is of moderate difficulty and is suitable for family walks and sports.
