A representative historical, preserved monument of the 19th century, is located in the center of Axiopolis and is none other than the church of Agios Dimitrios. It sealed with his presence the important moments of Axiopolis and is one of the places of the city that is worth visiting for the visitor.
A sacred temple that the visitor should not forget is the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in Koupa of Skra. It was built in the first half of the 19th century in the style of a three-aisled wooden-roofed basilica. Its interior is preserved in its original form and is a unique testimony of these years in the area.
In Baltotopi of Axiopolis, the sanctuary of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Eleni in the style of a post-Byzantine three-aisled basilica, was built in the middle of the 19th century. The surviving finds of architectural members, such as the columns and the entablatures found in the courtyard of the temple, testify that it was built on the site of an older temple.
Gorgopi has every reason to be proud of the sanctuary of Agios Nikolaos, as rare relics are preserved from 1802, the year in which the post-Byzantine church was built. Inside it the decoration of 19th century is kept in very good condition.

The church of Agia Kyriaki in Filyria is a post-Byzantine three-aisled royal church with a niche that has external blind arches and its construction dates back to 1860.
A part of the Holy Monastery of Simonos Petra, with an imposing appearance that was founded in 1981 and operates according to the Mount Athos standard. The central church is double and its upper level is dedicated to Agios Nikodimos while the ground floor is dedicated to Agios Raphael, Agia Irene and Agios Nikolaos. The hagiography of the Monastery is particularly famous with its exceptional icons.
The Holy Monastery of Panagia Goumenissa with the homonymous miraculous icon of Panagia, functions as a male convent and as a sacred place of pilgrimage.
It is the seat of the Holy Metropolis of Goumenissi, Axioupolis and Polykastro.
In the first years of its operation it was catholic and was granted to the Monastery of Iveron on Mount Athos in 1346 AD, while it was the reason for the founding of the city of the same name. The miraculous icon of Panagia Goumenissa is honored 4 times a year:

The moment when the traditional religion meets the grandeur of nature! In the area of Griva, at an elevation of 600 meters, in a fabulous natural environment of Paiko mountain, is placed the holy monastery of Agios Raphael, Nikolaos and Irene, having as view the breathtaking valley of Axios. The male monastery was established in 1992.
In the monastery are kept the holy relics of Agios Raphael,Agios Nikolaos, Agia Irene, Agia Maria Magdalini and a small piece of true cross.
The monastery is open from 7am until sunset.

The holy retreat of Agios Georgios, established in 1991 belongs to the Metropolis of Goumenissa, even though it’s not part of the municipality of Paionia. In the retreat there are 10 nuns. It is located in the ruins of Anydros deserted settlement, in a quiet area, by having as a landmark the old temple of Agios Georgios.In the small church that dates back to the middle of the 19th century, a remarkable Byzantine decoration is preserved with wood carvings, frescoes and icons of the time on the iconostasis and the roof.
In Pentalofos the visitor can admire the Holy Temple dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, inside which are preserved frescoes and iconostasis with images of Koulaki painters. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, in Omalos of Pentalofos, was built in 1856 and inside it are preserved frescoes with icons of the same era.
The Holy Temple of Brigadiers Gabriel and Michael is located in Gerakona of Filyria and is a sample of a three-aisled basilica of the 19th century.
In Griva is the Church of Agios Athanasios, built in the early 19th century and stands out for its wood-carved iconostasis and frescoes.
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a three-aisled basilica, built in the early 19th century and presents remarkable examples of wood carving and painting.
The Church of Agios Athanasios Karpis was designated a monument in 1991 as its architecture, interior decoration and painting provide evidence of the history of the area in the 19th century.
The Church of Agia Paraskevi in Kastaneri was designated a protected monument because the whole church and its interior decoration provide important historical information about the area in the 19th century.
The Church of Agios Peter and Paul in Stathis is a three-aisled basilica of the 19th century. with a built-in bell tower and is a typical example of architecture in the area.
The Church of Agios Athanasios in Toumpa was built around 1800 and is a typical example of a post-Byzantine three-aisled basilica with an external portico on its south and west sides. Inside is preserved a wood-carved iconostasis, lecterns and icons of Saints dating to 1805 – 1806.
The Church of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Eleni in Messia is of particular scientific interest as the church has a mosque (15th – 16th century) built of marble. The mosque and the way of integrating the ancient building in the newer church create a unique archeological composition.
A beautiful Holy Temple in the center of Polykastro that is worth visiting. Its width exceeds 900 sq.m. while an impressive gynaeconite completely covers the three sides of the temple.
The sanctuary is located in the Small Forest and is a post-Byzantine three-aisled basilica of the 19th century and has undergone large-scale operations.
The Church of Agios Georgios in Pefkodasos belongs to the type of wooden-roofed basilica and dates back to the middle of the 19th century. The eastern part of the Temple is preserved and is the only historical evidence of the time for the village of Pefkodasos.
